The Old Forge Yarnies!!

June 18, 2010

The Yarnies did not let me down!!    I was a bit late…  Sorry, my Bella needed walking. She was going to be crated for several hours and it was imperative that her needs were satisfied.

Not all my Yarnie friends were there.  We are going to have a make up day mid July.  We can reach the summer birds and give a lot of ample notice to those that do not live in town but within an hour or two’s drive.

Here are some from yesterday!!

Last but not least!!  Midge!!

I have to admit,  I had a ton of fun!!….  AND its so cool to be in such a creative environment!!   I wasn’t there 5 min and I was drooling over all the exquisite yarns.  I found the yarn of my dreams…  it has mohair in it!!…    I may have found a pattern too.  I have tons of  photography work to do, but If I hustle the rest of this AM, I will be able to play hooky tomorrow and attend the grand opining!!.

Danielle’s shop is not limited to yarn.  It has Adirondack goodies and toys as well.!!!  There is something to entertain everybody while mom is checking out the yarn.

Sigh…  so many ideas and so little time!!  Back to Photography by Pat stuff !!!  I wanna go play in Old Forge tomorrow!!

Blessings to all

Pat

My friend Danielle has opened a new yarn shop. I am traveling there June 17 to create portraits of all the ladies that have so patiently helped me learn to knit. Knitting has always been a mystery to me. In the past I have knit myself into knots. I am an accomplished seamstress and hand smocker. I can also embroider. So why couldn’t I knit??? Dunno, I just do not know.

I am a believer in fate. I guess I am supposed to learn to knit in my 50’s. As I reflect on the milestones in my life I think of each moment.

I learned to sew Barbie clothes at age 7, downhill ski at age 9. In my teens I joined the young republicans and became an environmentalist…. I also picked up a camera and found a passion that has lasted for over 30 years.

In my 20’s I attended college, married and started a family. At which time I began smocking clothing for my new daughter.

My 30’s were filled with family and twin boys.

In my 40’s I enjoyed my children, became a substitute teacher and notched up my photography skills with portraiture education. I opened my photography business in my late 40’s…. What was I thinking? LOL

In my 50’s I guess its time for reflection. My life has been blessed with family and friends. I recently added a dog to the mix.. as if I needed more excitement. Bella is a sweet puppy and is loved dearly my not only myself but her boys as well. She melts in their presence.

So, I believe that learning to knit in my 50’s is just another milestone… and its worth a mention. I knit for pleasure,  but ONLY for those that I love. Knitting is portable. It can be picked up and set down on a moments notice. Whats more… the product provides warmth. When my kids use an item I make for them I hope they think of me. I am kissing and hugging them even though I am 200 miles away.

I am excited to travel to Old Forge, NY  tomorrow to create portraits of the yarnies that have so patiently sat next to me. They taught me to read a pattern and decipher the abbreviations. I get to share my art and enjoy other artists in a creative CloseKnit way!
